If you’re looking for a photographer in NC offering fall flower field sessions, you probably want more than just pretty pictures- you want an experience that feels calm, playful and true to your family. You know that sitting still and saying cheese just doesn’t fit.
This flower field in Unionville, NC stole my heart this spring and I’m excited to offer them again this fall.
In this post, i’m sharing exactly what our session will look like, feel like and how to prep to make the most of our time together- getting natural smiles, tender interactions, and beautiful images with Mom IN the photos with her family.

How a Rushed Flower Field Session Impacts Your Photos
I often hate having to pay for venues. When your goal is to make a profit, you are having to limit amount of shooting time to make room for more clients who may or may not even sign up for your session. It is a lot! I don’t want to offer rushed flower field sessions.
When you are rushing in a flower field session, you are limiting the natural and authentic things that can happen during the session. The slowing down can help kids feel more relaxed and safe bringing out more of their natural smiles.
The stress piles on and families feel pressured to get their kids to smile and behave. Sometimes this results in parents yelling at their kiddos or relying on threats and it honestly puts a damper on the whole experience.
Sometimes kids open up right away, which helps us jump right into more of the games and play, and saving more of the gentle quiet moments for the end. Longer sessions means capturing it all. You may love a smiling photo, but who doesn’t love the tender moments we miss day to day.

Why Timing Matters for a Flower Field Session
When mini sessions are typically hosted, times are given throughout the day- which means inconsistent lighting. By allowing a fewer amount of bookings, I can get good lighting for giving you shots that are displayed on my instagram.
My two favorite times are golden hour AND mid afternoon– I’m loving the vintage / nostalgic aesthetic and I capture this with bright sun and harsh light (which used to be my enemy). I love using pantyhose over my lens to add some dreamy vibes. It also can minimize wrinkles and skin textures!
I will never schedule a session at noon. The light is the worst at that time and can cast unwanted shadows and unflattering ones at that!

Creating Space for Connection in Your Flower Field Session
I absolutely love my sessions in the flower fields this spring. We slowed down (while still using prompts and direction for good lighting). Moments unravelled that captured motherhood beautifully.
Check out this video from this session:
I place people where I want them according to the light (or direct them to go to that spot) and then use gentle prompting like touch your son’s head, play with your daughter’s hair, pick flowers together, point to your favorite flower, put a flower in her hair, skip to me, twirl, go give mommy a hug
Plus the croissants were a hit!

How to Prep for Your Flower Field Session
Rushing to get outfits together is one of the most stressful things about booking family photos. So, don’t wait to plan outfits. As soon as you book, you can check out my style inspo boards.

Some sessions come with a customized style guide and access to my client closet. You can always add on the client closet to any session as well. Check out my Client Closet HERE.

Making the Most of Your Flower Field Session Investment
It goes without saying that the time you have with your family is precious. Next year will look different, heck, even tomorrow will! They might lose a tooth, they might get glasses, they may not be the only child anymore, you might have blonder hair. Remembering that time together is important and being together is a season in life. Slowing down to capture that is worth every penny.
Extra time spent in sessions means more variety to your gallery. I can pull back to get wide shots, and in close to get the details. I can get you guys laughing and playing, and you guys snuggling and sentimental. I may even bring out my drone for a full 1hr session time frame. It means more storytelling and the longer the session, the more pictures on the pages.

How to Plan Ahead for a Relaxed Flower Field Session
Get everyone on board. Show your husband my work. Show your kids. Talk about what it means to you to document their lives and to be IN the photo WITH them. Show them old photos of you when you were little. Every little bit of framing this time together is worth it.

Pick a time frame that works with nap schedules. Bring snacks. Arrive early.
