Newborn | Meet Grady | Matthews, NC

Charlotte Photographer and Home-builder parents welcoming 2nd baby boy on the scene means they know how to preserve, build, and document the beauty of a growing family. They were in the process of designing and building a new home, so they didn’t have a nursery dedicated for the new baby. This lifestyle newborn session included documenting his new space with mama, daddy and big brother, and shows he was born into a family that shares, makes room, and wants to be close.

If you’re looking for a natural newborn photographer in Charlotte, sessions like this are my favorite to document.

Why I Love In-Home Newborn Photography

Newborn pictures at home remind them what life looked like when they were born. Sometimes they hold the memories of your first home or the style you had back then.

I can’t imagine getting ready and driving to a studio the week after giving birth. I’d rather stay home, in my space, with all the things I need, and no chance I’ll forget to bring something. I’ll have my mascara, my touch up lipgloss, my burp cloth, my diapers, and anything else I’d need or remember 30 minutes in.

I’ll bring clothes, my newborn suit case, florals or greenery, and a treat (most likely homemade sourdough!)

I want you to have a day to feel human- to dress up, to put on makeup, etc without the stress of actually going somewhere.

The Beauty of Including the Whole Family

Including the whole family shows how all responded to bringing baby home. I love showing the size of baby in dad’s hands and siblings holding or even making faces with their new baby. I want to focus on connection and how you look at baby, how baby perfectly fits in your family, and the love that surrounds baby.

You never know what you are going to get with a 2.5 year old, but I’m here for all of it! I always have secret treats just in case!

If you’re searching for a Charlotte newborn photographer who includes the whole family, I always encourage full-family storytelling

What to Expect During a Newborn Session With Me

You can still have a relaxed newborn session and feel a little special. I’ll great you at the door with a treat, unload my props. Then, I’ll do a quick home tour looking for the best light and spaces I want to shoot- opening blinds and moving distractions. I’ll unpack my suitcase and wash my hands and get your family set in the first spot.

No worries on what to do in front of the camera, I’ll direct you and encourage you the whole time.

I offer a client closet for mama, so she doesn’t have to think about what to wear or what will fit.

Among the posed and prompted photos, I’m getting candid newborn photos as well. Baby and sibling photos are the best! Natural newborn photos include both! You never know how they will handle the new baby- will they want to hold? be disinterested? run away? reject the baby? I have to have a good read on the sibling before posing them with the baby. Most of the time it works, and other times, I include a parent or hide marshmallows around baby to get some closeness.

We can always take a break for snacks, and I actually encourage that because it makes it look more like life.
