Your fall family session location is a key part in your family photos. It shows a little bit about your family’s style. It can provide space for kids who like to roam and create boundaries for keeping families together. The perfect location makes you the focus of the image. There are so many great options and the ones I’m suggesting don’t even have a body of water.
I often have repeat clients and while fields are beautiful, I also like having some other unique options to give variety. Each year I add some new spots on my list. One on this list, I have not shot at currently, but hoping to, soon!
Which one do you gravitate towards more?
- MINT HILL PARK
Shh! This is a secret spot! This park in Mint Hill is the most dreamy back drop for fall photos. The grass is high, the green is faded, and you have space to roam. This is a less know location, so while there are other photographers there, it is not over saturated and there is enough space to still feel somewhat private even though it is FREE.
Pro tip, book on a weeknight for even more privacy if your kids get easily distracted.
Pros- free, less traffic, good light, space to roam, open almost at any time, no pre-booking the location
Cons- Less variety in background, watch out for ant hills

2. BLUE HILL GARDEN
Blue Hill Garden is the ultimate space for those who want to romanticize life and motherhood. They have seasonal flowers that will match your session’s season. I’m excited to offer these in October with more of a Fall vibe with cozy sweaters and textured knits.
This venue requires a small location fee ($50) + entry fee ($5 per person over 5) – you can add on the vase upon entry to cut your own flowers as an option, but it’s not mandatory. Totally worth it.

Book your Flower Field 30 minute Chapter Session Here.. limited to 3 spots.
If that date doesn’t work for you, you can always add this location on to your family story session and spend up to 1 hour (or more).. with me in the flowers! What does that mean? More variety, more details, more meaning, more photos, slowing down and eliminating the rush of trying to force unnatural smiles. Check out my blog post on storytelling sessions here to read more.
Pros- limited access which equals less traffic, one of a kind, the photography pass is good for all day, more space to roam
Cons- Similar backdrops, a bit of a drive, entry fee, pre-booking required (but more availability than others)
3. O’CONNOR FARM
Another favorite space for fall photos, it this Farm in Monroe. It has a beautiful white barn and gives just enough holiday. You can add the pop of red for more of a holiday vibe, or go with the trending western theme and add in a cowgirl hat, boots, some denim and brown plaids.

This is a private location and a date and time are preselected based on availability. If you are booking this for a 1hr Story Session, I’ll just need to confirm openings with the venue. Sessions at these locations are non-refundable once booked.
Pros- great white barn, various backgrounds and props provided by location, privacy
Cons- limited times/ pre-booking required, sun can be a little tricky, a bit of a drive
4. CAMP NORTH END
I’m kind of loving the urban vibe and it allows for more creativity and using the surroundings to add more variety to your images. In November, they have more of the holiday decor with an ice skating rink, snow globes, murals, and frosted trees. It’s a great little art district adding the most unique backdrops you can only get here. Plus, it’s free to walk around and explore.

A 30 minute chapter session would be 1 section of camp north end (seen above).. they have an over grown field area as well, if you want to shoot both for variety, you definitely want the 1 hour family story session. Want to see what a 1 hour session from Camp North End includes?
Check out this Session on the Blog.
Pros- free, variety of backdrops, grab dinner on the way home, can grab a treat there or even ice skate, full of adventure
Cons- can have a crowd, lots of walking, busier backgrounds

5. The Little House
This is a new option for a fall family photo location, and I am loving the vintage decor. I’m picturing a family playing in the living room or decorating a tree, singing carols at the piano (don’t worry we won’t actually hear you), or making cookies in the kitchen.
This is a private venue and bookings have to be prepaid for. You can see their instagram here.

Pros- you get various rooms, doesn’t rely on whether, encourages story telling and family fun, one of a kind, private
cons- pre-booking required, $150 fee for 2 hours so it might be a little more expensive for a single family add-on
What places feel more your vibe? City/ Country/ Field/ Flowers/ Homey? So many great options with a range of locations, pricing, and vibes.
